Motor / Pump Protection

At Hartland Southwest, we are specialists in motor and pump protection.   We have worked with motor protection for 20 years.   We can protect AC motors from fractional horsepower up through as large as they come.  Smaller motors typically only require monitoring of voltage.   As motors get larger, monitoring of voltage and current is necessary and, on large motors, monitoring of harmonics and thermals within the motor are useful.     In addition to monitoring the incoming voltage and current to motors/pumps, and if a VFD is driving the motor, some type of protection may be needed depending on the lead length between the VFD and the motor/pump.   This is because the VFD’s output is a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) sine wave and this type of wave can result in spikes due to reflection on the way to the motor.
