Allied Moulded Vapor Seal: Air-Sealed Boxes for Walls and Fixture Support

Electrical openings are one detail to consider when planning an energy-efficient home. Allied Moulded’s flexBOX® Vapor Seal® line addresses air infiltration at electrical boxes, with options for wall devices and fixture support.

Air-Sealing Features Built Into the Box

The products featured in the flyer combine polycarbonate new-work construction with a Thermoplastic Polyester Elastomer (TPE) flange and sealed TPE clamps. According to the flyer, the sealed clamps eliminate the need for caulk or additional sealing at those clamps.

P-442NV: A Two-Gang Wall Box

The P-442NV is a two-gang Vapor Seal electrical box for use with nonmetallic sheathed cable. Its 43-cubic-inch volume provides space for two-gang applications, while leveling ribs and molded-in splined device holes support installation.

The TPE flange accommodates single-layer ½-inch or ⅝-inch drywall.

Round Fixture Boxes with Mounting Options

The PC234-NV and PC234-NGV are 4-inch-diameter round fixture-support boxes. Both offer 23 cubic inches of volume and a 50-pound fixture rating. The PC234-NGV includes a grounding strap.

For installations requiring an adjustable bar hanger, the PC234-BHV and PC234-BHGV offer the same volume and fixture rating with an additional mounting option. The PC234-BHGV includes a grounding strap.

All four round models feature sealed TPE clamps, molded-in splined device holes, and a TPE flange for single-layer ½-inch or ⅝-inch drywall offset.

Match the Product to the Assembly

The flyer lists UL certification under ANSI/UL 514C and NEMA OS 4 energy-efficient box standards. Fire-resistance classifications depend on the model and assembly:

  • P-442NV: Listed in the flyer for wall assemblies rated 2 hours or less, with at least 24 inches of horizontal separation.
  • PC234 round models: Listed for floor-ceiling assemblies rated 2 hours or less; spacing between boxes in adjacent cavities may be reduced to 5½ inches under the applicable classification.

Use the manufacturer’s listing and the applicable UL fire-resistance details to confirm the requirements for your project.
